Subalpine Warbler - Sylvia cantillans albistriata

This little bird has a lovely song and we heard it every day at the place where we stayed. It was not as easy to see and photograph though and this one was captured at a popular and high viewing point along the road to Molivos. It was rather windy at the time and I missed it when I first saw it up the top of this tree but it later returned and let me get this shot for which I was very grateful!!

“Sylvia cantillans, is a small typical warbler which breeds in the southernmost areas of Europe and northwest Africa. This small passerine bird is migratory, and winters along the southern edge of the Sahara.

This is a bird of dry open country, often on hill slopes, with bushes for nesting. The nest is built in low shrub or gorse, and 3-5 eggs are laid. Like most "warblers", it is insectivorous, but will also take berries.” From Wikipedia

Sw. name – ”Rödstrupig sångare”

This was captured from a distance of about 10 metres. It has been cropped and sharpened.

Very noisy picture, too much cropping?

Ciao Ulla, great capture of lovely bird in nice pose against a splendid blue sky, fine details, beautiful natural colors and excellent sharpness, very well done my friend, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

The bird obliged you with a perfect pose against the deep blue sky, Ulla.
Every bit of the picture including the dry branches of a tree is in sharp focus. Whereas all the subtle colours on the subject have been recorded in their most natural aspect, it is the catchlight in the bird's eye that makes it a great shot.
Thanks and regards.

Hello Ulla,
Despite the typical loss of resolution due to the distance, you have done a good job cutting and sharpening this image. Al Good POV and the light is perfect to allow us appreciate good details of this bird. Good job, TFS, have a nice WE!

Hello Ulla,
such a unique bird to me. With big head and fluffy throat it is special. The blue sky is indeed very pleasant background.
The shiny eye is well captured to depict liveliness and beauty.
Beautiful view.

NB: It is interesting to hear about your experience trumpling onto the spirobolida, as at times i accidentally stepped onto it among the rotten leaves under the canopy of rainforest.

Hi Ulla.
What a cute bird, simple and at the same time wonderful subject at whole. Pose, details of the bird are reproduced greatly. I like excellent DOF and sharpness of all objects including dry twigs. Colours of the sky is sweet. Well done and best wishes.

Hallo Ulla
Looking at this image with its clear blue sky reminds me of the Jaycee's style of photography, but you are two individual photographers and I must applause you for this lovely, lovely image. The colours (not only the sky) are just marvellous and very eye-catching. I especially like the glint in the eye, and the toffee brown and charcoal grey feathers, and the thin white stroke that seperates these two colours from one another. I also fancy the two coloured beak and the thin Pinnochio legs. This is an image that is jam packed full of stunning details. I did not even notice the loss of resolution or noise until I read some of the other critiques and went back to see what they saw, and to me it is a minor nit and is out shadowed by all the positive features. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hi Ulla,

I love this beautiful Warbler with the wonderful eye. I have not seen a Subalpine Warbler before. A marvelous view of his feathers and lovely colors and the slightly opened beak is a bonus. A fantastic pose with an Arizona blue sky.
