Another new bird for TN:
The Grosbeak Starling (Scissirostrum dubium), also known as the Grosbeak Myna, Finch-billed Myna, or Scissor-billed Starling, is a species of starling in the Sturnidae family. It is monotypic within the genus Scissirostrum. It is endemic to Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Its natural habitat is tropical lowland, and sometimes subtropical montane, lightly wooded forest areas and wetlands.

This species nests in colonies, which frequently contain hundreds of pairs. Its nests are bored in rotting or dying tree trunks in woodpecker style. It eats fruit, insects, and grain.

Grosbeak Starlings are highly vocal, at their colonies and in feeding flocks.

Hello Peter,
A superb species of Mynah from Sulawesi well taken with great use of the low light to give excellent sharpness and good colours against an ideal BG. The compositionis perfect.
You must have used a tripod or some means to support your camera when you had such a low shutterspeed!
Thanks and kind regards,

Ciao Peter. The best sharp and details with impressive focused eye. Excellente contrast against the scenographic BG.

I am a firm believer in WYSIWYG (computer lingo for 'what you see is what you get') or should I say I WAS until I joined TN. These days I only workshop a picture if I truly believe it is a great shot and REALLY teaches me something new about nature...Yours sure met that criteria. Fine shot Pete!
PS I think I over sharpened and didnt see it on my screen until on TN.

Hello Peter,

Hola Peter

Vaya esta pajaro, parece el llamado Pica Bueyes, que muchas veces se ve encima de cualquier herbivoro comiendose los parasitos o su sangre en heridas. Aunque el color superior del pájaro es diferente.

Bella imagen, perfecta nitidez y buen POV. Excelente.

Un saludo de Antonio

Hi Peter.

Another first - I have not seen this bird with the expression of a Myna and the beak of a Grosbeak before. The colors and details are excellent - I love the matching beak and feet. A wonderful pose on the branch with the marvelous green leaves behind him.

Dear Peter

Beside the fact that the bird is very beautiful, I also like the duality created by the calm and serene aspect of the bird and the dynamic and vivid background. Moreover, I notice with pleasure that you also present a first on TN, our friend Silvio did the same today.

Kind regards

Hallo Peter,

Hallo Peter
I did not think I'll ever say this of any Myna, but this is indeed a bird that testify of pride and charm. The details captured here is stunning and seen with such clarity. The image as a whole is presented in such a pleasant manner that it actually warmths the heart. I think I like the name Grosbeak Starling better. It sounds more stylish than Myna. I gladly add my green smiley to this one. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Excelente luz, buena pose del ave y un fondo soberbio.
Un gran trabajo Peter.

Awesome post as previous one MF!
TFS and Cheers,
