Back to the bird park in Walsrode. There I saw this stretching Black Bishop, a NEW BIRD for TN.

The Black Bishop, euplectes gierowii, is the largest red bishop. Breeding male is easily identified by the black rump, narrow breast band and orange-red mantle; vent is streaked (not plain). In Kenya and N Tanzania, could be confused with the red-naped form of Red-collared Widowbird, but has much shorter tail and red extends further down back. Extent of orange on back varies geographically; greatest in friederichseni (Kenia and N Tanzania). Non-breeding male and female are larger than other red bishops and are overall darker, with heavy spotting on breast; more likely to be confused with female widowbirds.

Variable grass and crop types, especially sugar cane and mature corn.

Locally common; breeds singly; joins bishop and weaver flocks outside breeding seasons.

Squizzling ‘zee zee zee’ in puffed-up display flight.

That's a very elegant bird there, Peter. I have viewed it for the first time.
You have managed a good shot despite your low exposure values. Were you using a tripod?
Thanks and regards.

Hi Peter.
This species is really wonderful. However, where is its tail? You managed to catch a nice moment. Pose of the bird, posture of the head and bird's look are very cute. Reproduction of colouration, feathers and other details are ultimate. My kind wishes and compliments.

Hello Peter,
A very nice capture of this colourful species of E. African Weaver, a male Black Bishop. The pose and POV are interesting and taken with excellent sharpness and colours against a nice tree trunk BG considering the low lighting.

Hello Peter,
Amazing to have bishops in the bird-world! Amazing too, because we just lost yesterday one of our most beloved bishops in Switzerland. You caught it in a very special position, looking down on something interesting, I suppose.
Colorful picture taken at the marvellous place of Walsrode.
Kind regards

Hello Peter,
What a gorgeous species you bring us for the first time. The colours are brilliant and the pose almost comical, as it appears to be afraid of the edge.

Hello Peter,
first of all the name itself is new to me. The colour combination is so special and unique and the composition is sttractive. The texture of the semi opened wings is very sharp and detailed.
Very well composed shot and you waited for the right moment to trigger the camers.

Hellow Peter,
A great capture and natural pose with good use of available light.Excellent yellow and black contrasting colours.
