Amaryllis, Satyre tithon
Rotbraunes Ochsenauge

Family: Nymphalidae
Subfamily: Satyrinae
Wingspan: 34-38mm
Habitat: meadow margings, hedges
Distribution: S and W-Europe

I'm not a 100% sure if this is Pyronia tithonus, because a very similar species Pyronia cecilia lives in the same area too. For me the first time I show this species.

Hello Anne,
nice close-up p.tithonus,common in the northern Turkey,regards..

Hi Anne,
This is the first time for me to see this species. Fabulous capture with excellent sharp details, nice composition and brilliant natural colors. Well done, my friend, and thanks. Have a nice weekend!

Though the Gatekeeper is somewhat worn out, it still makes a strong impression in your picture, Anne.
The top perspective shows the colours and markings on its wings quite clearly.
Thanks and regards.

Hello Anne,
Well captured this butterfly on stony surface.Like its colour and sharpness.POV is also good to me.
Thanks for sharing,
Regards and have a nice time,

Hello Anne,
Very beautiful although it does look a bit worn out as Ram says. What is it doing sitting on the stones? Is it taking some precipitate? I like your choice of portrait format here. Enjoy what is left of the weekend. Best wishes.

Bonjour Anne
Je viens de vérifier, car moi aussi j'ai eu un doute, mais tu as bien raison.
Ton papillon est "Pyronia tithonus", et c'est une femelle.
Comme dit Luciano, il n'est pas facile ŕ photographier ouvert.
Alors : bravo.
je te souhaite un bon dimanche

Hello Anne,
Looks like this worn out soldier has spent quite a few days on the wing. It may be a little tattered and torn, but it is still a beautiful butterfly. I like the color of it's wings, orange trimmed in brown with those two black eye spots.
