Dear Trekkers,

After my snowy / icy pic last weekend, something much more "spring-ish". I already shared this species, the Scarlet Elfcup (Sarcoscypha austriaca (O. Beck ex Sacc.) Boud.) a few times and will do so in the future, too, as it's a very common and very spectacular ascomyceta, a sign of spring as it's fruiting between December and April (most frequently in February / March).

Photo was taken on the yard of Castle Ffrench, with my pocket compact, 5 years ago. Manual exposure mode and white balance. The fruitbody was a little old, however, its shape was like a parabolic antenna (satellite), hence the title. ☺

Thanks for looking.

Hi Laszlo,a jump in your archive wating something new in your country after the snow. A beautiful capture of this curious species that in effect looks like a satellite dish painted with the roof color....ehehe...good details from your compact camera and bright colors too. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello 👋 Laszlo,

To me it looks like a Dish Antenna 😂. Beautiful coloured 🍄 Fungi. Well isolation from the background, although bottom left portion looks bit soft due to out of focus, otherwise a nice presentation.

Thanks for showing such beautiful Fungi ☺
Regards and stay warm in cold 🌨 weather

Ciao Pierre, great macro of lovely fungus, wonderful natural colors, fine details, splendid light and excellent clarity, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Dear Laszlo,
cheerfully colourful, eye-catching presentation of the Scarlet Elfcup, a fungus that looks quite unique in our forests. In some years with humid and mild winters, they seem to be quite common in our region (austriaca), but after late February's sharp frost I am wondering how they are doing this year. Probably they do prefer the mild Irish climate.
A perfect and quite unusual greeting of Spring you have given us. Thank you! With best regards,

hallo Laszlo
