Although it's almost November, and the big boom of mushroom season is already over, maybe You'll like to see this white Russula from the mid of September. Honestly speaking I don't know the exact ID, but it's surely a Russula. Any help is more than welcomed. I found it in the mountains called "Balaton Highlands", being exact on "Thomas Hill" near Balatonfüred, just as this mushroom.

I dedicate this photo to my Romanian friend Petru Damsa ("petrudamsa"), who's an acknowledged fungi explorer. :) Maybe he knows which kind of Russula this is - I give the specification up now.

Hello Laszlo!

Good shot! Russulas are very hard to capture with good quality, but you did it. I like very low POV and composition with forest on BG. Fungus is sharp and well exposed. Quite nice fungus to be honest, but could be lethal :-)

Hi Laszlo.
Great capture!
Excellent contrast and pleasant composition.
Very good sharpness, DOV and POV.
Well done!
Best regards,
José Roberto

Hi Laszlo,
Well exposed shot of this Russulla.
I guess you knew it was a Russulla because of the depression in the middle of the cap?
I can't say I know the exact ID but its a nice shot anyway.
Well done.
Steve

Hello Laszlo,

and thanks for dedication. My first impresion looking at this mushroom is that you got a young exemplar of Russula delica. That would be true if the next details (not seen in the picture) are present: gills quite thick, and rather distantiated, maybe with a slight greenish colour, the flesh including the cap is compact and crispy (most of the russulas with white gills hav'em slim, aglomerated and elastic).

If not, there are some Russula species that usually have a coloured cap, but from different reasons some individuals are decoloured, rarely up to near white: R. ochroleuca, R. farinipes, Russula fellea. I doubt that is one of these species though: I would stick with R. delica.

Cheers, Petru
