[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Two day ago, I noted "to be continue my İzmir seri". Pelecanus crispus Bruch, 1832 - Tepeli Pelikan [TR], Dalmatian Pelican or Crested Pelican [EN] is a symbol bird species Gediz Delta where the İzmir Kuşcenneti "Bird Paradisea".
The species belongs to the family Pelecanidae of the order Pelecaniformes. Their feet different from those of ducks and geese (Anseriformes) and four fingers are webbed together (In Anseriformes three fingers in front are webbed, rare finger free).
P. crispus lives in large inner waters, lakes, large marshes and lagoons, e.g. Kızılırmak Delta, Aktaş Gölü (Ardahan), Büyük Menderes Delta, İzmir Kuş Cenneti etc.
Gediz Delta is one of the most important breeding area for these birds.
Its body lenght is 160-180 cm, wingspan is 280-295 cm. It is a bit larger sized than other pelican species, Pelecanus onocrotalus Linnaeus, 1758 - Beyaz Pelikan [Tr], White Pelican [EN] in Turkiye and Western Palaearctic Region. Both of them have enourmous, pouched bills as like other six Pelecanus Linnaeus, 1758 species. This part is orange colored in P. crispus, but yellowish in P. onocrotalus. Legs are greyish, eyes are yellow, underparts of wings are greyish white in P. crispus. Whereas in P. onocrotalus, legs are pinky or reddish, membranes around eyes and pouch are yellow or orange, wing fethers black (similar to those of a White Stork (Ciconia ciconia).

The photograph was taken when our driver, Kenan drove fastly and it was dark cloudy. Although lighting not enough, I hope you will like this shot. Thanx for looking.

Hola Ahmet,
This shot is a miracle under the conditions you mention, you've managed to keep the bird in sharp focus and the BG uncluttered. Good job.
