Unwanted Organisms - Dedicated to my friend George Veltchev (mwmod99)

It seems like my days on TrekNature are numbered. During my 4-year presence, I enjoyed every minute I spent here. Just see:

1. Having friendship with a lot of great photographers worldwide.
2. Sharing my photos, including many first presentations (mostly fungi species and a few plants also) on the site.
3. Helping you, fungi lovers, with ID specifications. This was even more important for me than posting my own shots, and I did it with teenlike enthusiasm and pleasure.

Being a frequent critiquer, I'm standing behind all of my written words, good or bad critiques - I hope at least a bunch of you saw my activity useful.

I'd like to stay. There are pics of many more fungi species in my archives to share with you, and the fact a lot of people asked for my help in identifying fungi is more joyful than thousand other things on Earth! I'd like to stay. But only if I can write my opinion about a given photo. My critiques are always critiques of photos, not critiques of the photographers' personalities! If I'm forced to soften my thoughts, if I need to place meaningless praises instead of real critiques I have to say I don't ask for any more of this site.

So, a fungi pic, maybe the last one from me. I hope you'll like it.

Conception behind the post: I was searching for a pic in my archives with 2 (a bigger and a smaller) fruit-bodies of a polypore species (to represent the current situation), a real "unwanted organism". Wanted to share a new species on TN ("if you have to go, go in a suitable way"), but none of those shots fit to the conception composition-wise. Although this species was shared quite a few times on TN, this is the first photo of it in my gallery.

Species info: Ganoderma applanatum (Pers.) Pat.

Photo: taken near Balatonfűzfő town, during our vacation. Out of hand, no flash. Manual exposure, shutter priority mode, manual white balance. PP: moderate cropping, framing, re-sizing, selective sharpening.

I wish everyone merry Christmas and a happy new year. Respectfully yours, László

Hi Laszlo, unusual POV from the high in your gallery..ehehe..but obviously is the best view for this specie! I wish you all the best for Christmas and thanks for share,Luciano.

Ciao Ladislao,
Ciao Maurizio

Laszlo, Hello Dear Friend
Cute picture of Ganoderma fungi, from a good POV. It resembles a G. stipitatum you identified for me in a photo I sent you ... Good job!

Well ... I'm a "clueless" guy by birth ... So I do not understand why you say you will leave TN! ... I only see that my friend George is involved and you gave the photo, he also told me will leave TN ... I do not understand! ... Could someone please explain what happened? ...

I am sending you a hug ... I wish you Merry Christmas to you and your whole family!... :)

Regards,

Jesús

hello Laszlo
great shot with good details and lovely pose on the tree
beautiful naturel colours and good sharpness with nice light
i have found the same specie
thanks greeting lou

Hello Laszlo.
I hope you are having a joyous time with your loved ones this Christmas. You are right about the friends and wonderful learning experience here. I still learn a lot from experts like you even my pictures are all crappy :-)
I have spotted one of this bracketing on my pomelo tree yesterday. Rather thick with leather like texture. This might be the type that lasts a long time, may be up to 70 years.
Thanks and greeting from Malaysia - Jusni

Hello Laszlo,

yes an really Ganoderma, yes you have been helped me sometimes, many thanks.
I'll send new ones to you within an few weeks.
About this picture.

Fine natural colors.
Also Merry Christmas but, i have every body this in my snowfungi pic.

Gert

Hi Laszlo,
I think that you will reconsider your decision, you need here at TN, in order to absorb all non honest comments.
We need more people that you are not fewer.
You write well articulated honest comments which I respect, you help many both with id of fungi and photographic tips and advice. So please stay.
Respectfully
Gert
Merry Christmas and I hope for a Great 2011

That is the third dedication I have ever received for the past 10 months, which is quite pleasing fact despite my controversial reputation. Very good evening friend Laszlo! Thank you for that kind gesture! To be honest, however I am against those dedications. They somehow obligate !
Well the title of your new image is also very controversial! I am not sure how to understand it?! Who are those unwanted organisms?! Are you talking about the parasite fungi in this image or just hiding some colorful metaphorical thoughts behind it?! ( Ha..haa.haa.ha, just some of my latest rude comments I guess my friend! ) Well, I know how tough it was for you those few days friend Laszlo! It was tough for me as well, believe me! Tough to accept the reality that here in Treknature you can be seen as an enemy when actually you are trying to help! (”NO,no no” ... I can almost here from hi above , “.....we need badly honest opinions! .....Bulls... ! ) But how we can help someone who is not looking for a help? And should we waste our energy in proving our point? Just look around you Laszlo! Have you seen any one despite you,me and just few others to question openly the point system? One by one those who understood that Treknature is going nowhere are leaving the site!
Well, as I wrote to Jesus, I will take a brake! For how long I do not know?! I may send an image or two before that, but I have made a decision already!
By the way - Good image with fine clarity, pleasant depth of field/natural colors and balanced composition! Big hugs Laszlo! To you, your gorgeous family and everyone around you!

Regards,
George Veltchev

Hello MF Laszlo,
I hope what youre writing is not true, only about the fungi is true. How sad of me upon hearing this note and how uncomfortable it is.
Whenever we are shooting fungi, Jusni and I will definitely refer to your name. When it comes to fungi- identification, features, characteristic etc- we are just like 3 year old learning statistics, so blank.

We were indebted to you with your help and guide. How I like nature and fungi so much.
Youre the mentor with vast knowledge as you really study them,
formally and full of real life experience.
Wishing you Merry Christmas and all the best to you.
I really hope you will stay.

My best regards ever,
Foozi

Hi Laszlo.
Your presence here is a great support TN and encouragement to all of us. Your nice shots gives perfect samples high photo skill. Your fair critique is useful always.

I like ultimate sharpness of the shot. We can see many attractive details on the fungi,. around it. Colour reproduction is also exceptional. Natural lighting is very impressive and pleasant. Great job and best regards.
Alexei.

a very beautiful photo, great natural colors, good use of light, the POV and the composition are great, my best wishes for Christmas Laszlo!

Dear László,
remarkable presentation of a rarely presented species in a perfectly clear descriptive way. Talking of composition, some cropping on top and to the left might even further enhance the picture's graphical qualities. But it is always a matter of difficult considerations for lovers of nature either to concentrate on the main object or to take also a good portion of the setting into the frame.
Reading your considerations to finish with fungi pics, I feel urged to say please don't. Your portraits of fungi are exceptional.
Happy New Year to you!
With friendly regards,
Peter

Hello Laszlo
I hope you will stay on TN, we need you for for the ID of our fungi shots, and also for your superb shots, like this one, the most of us have no problems with your critiques, bad or good, it's always your own opinion, and this is O.K
have a good night and happy New Year
Jacqueline

Hi Laszlo.
Interesting species and beautiful photo with very good composition, wonderful colours, and excellent sharpness.
Nevertheless I think that the broken grasses are “unwanted” from such a beautiful photo (at least for me). I have deleted them in my WS. I hope that I have not deleted any important detail of the species.
