[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Well, not my first, I found many earlier, but the 1st which I want to share a photo of. The Chanterelle (Cantharellus cibarius Fr.) is an excellent edible, growing in forests on acid soil, mycorrhizal with various deciduous and coniferous trees. For my greatest annoyance, I never before managed to make a shot of it which I could post to a photography forum.

Last Sunday I visited Lickeen Woods, a beautiful forest near Glencar village, county Kerry, and took beautiful memories and some good photos home. It was an awesome day which I never forget - even managed to make a useful chanterelle photo. :-)

Photo: taken in manual exposure mode, using a root of a spruce as tripod. PP: level and contrast adjustment, shadows / highlights, moderate cropping, after re-sizing to the TN-standard selective sharpening.

Although this is a common species, I was and still am very happy with this photo. I hope you like it, too - thanks for your comments. More photos from the trip later.

Hello Laszlo,
Great presentation of this fine looking Chanterelle. You did a wonderful job with exposure considering you didn't use any flash. Very good detail and beautiful natural tones. Nice vertical composition. The photo actually makes me a bit hungry:)

Hello Laszlo,
It's my favorite mushrooms. They are beautiful, they have a wonderful color and beautiful shapes. Magnificent specimen.

Hi Laszlo,
This is a magnificent close-up of the chanterelle. It looks as if it was lit-up from inside against the dark background.
Excellent management of the colours, light and sharpness. The gills are so distinct !
I found your gallery by chance (I am a TE member), and I have read that you are a mycologist. I suppose the job is made easier in Ireland, with all the damp weather :)
I see the picture was taken in August last year. It's the right time for mushrooms, as it is now in Brittany !
We have quite a few chanterelles in our garden or in the country lanes around.
Do you know by any chance if it's of any use to put back in the place where we found them, the end of the tails we cut off before cooking them ? Just curious to know if it would help them grow again ?
Thanks for your time, if you can spare a little.
Kind regards.
Marie-Louise.
