waiting for a chance... (20)
|Welcome again in the frog world,|
Today a next portion of frog's mating. I know the shots aren't so colourfull and pretty in the common sense - nevertheless I believe they present some interesting "facts of life"...
So again we meet Rana temporaria - the European Common Brown Frog.
Most of the individuals you see on that shot are males. There are only very few females and they are already grasped by males and hold in amplexus.
All the free males are watching restlessly the surroundings and waiting for any female that will approach the water. When it happens they will try to grasp her and will fight against rivals to hold the position. Still, Brown Frogs are relatively peaceful but in Common Toads (Bufo bufo) it happens frequently that the female is killed by too many males trying to hold her.
Concerning the technical aspect of that photo - it's very dark but believe me, finding a good balance between the extremely bright throat areas and the dark backs and backround colours wasn't an easy task.
I hope you enjoy despite this flaw...
