A Tiger Beetle (15)
|Cicindela campestris (Carabidae, Cicindelinae).|
This one is for cicindela (Radomir Jaskula).
About a dozen of these inhabited a 50m length of an old tractor track near a gas station on the M3 road (Moscow-Kiev). My strategy was to walk without much precaution and scare away a beetle, then spot the place where it landed and fall on all fours in order to come close enough to shoot. With a reversed lens I had to get quite close, at 10 cm or so. The sun was shining mercilessly, and it was about 30 degrees, so it took about an hour and a half and some sweat to make a number of decent shots.
