Please refer to brilliant note from Gerhard on link http://www.treknature.com/gallery/Africa/South_Africa/East/Free_State/Hennenman/photo5197.htm.

This was taken near the Sandriver outside of Virginia, Free State. He was one of many in the area and I stood next to the reeds and took pictures as and when I could. Very active birds today and the wind was really blowing – that’s why his plumage is very ruffled. I used a Canon 580 EX flash to do the fill in work at about 8-10 metres away.

I have cropped a bit and a little contrast. I am sure that some of the background can be changed, but I am not good enough at that yet.

Comments most welcome. Tim

Hi Tim,

I rotated the photo and cropped a bit tighter because I think you have enough details to show it off. I used the shadows and highlights tool to bring out a bit of the details in the plumage and used USM to sharpen. (I think I oversharpened a bit)

Let me know what you think.

Kind regards
Gerhard
