The Nature of Otters (50) hester
(11638) | Here we have a nice picture of an otter looking sweet. On the weekend I was watching the other side of their nature - ruthless hunters.
The otters at the BWC have been known to take down anything that lands on their lake (even a heron and a canadian goose). On Saturday I saw a moorhen arrive on the bank of the lake. The otter spotted it at the same time I did. It swam the length of the lake and caught it. The moorhen escaped 3 times and was caught again each time. The otter then dragged it into the lake and under the water. After playing with it for a while she dragged it to the far side of the lake and started to eat it.
Please see the WORKSHOP
for a photo. The quality of the shot isn't good as it was hailing and I couldn't get the shutter speed or DOF I needed event with a higher ISO. This was also on the far side of the lake. |
