I have previously posted a quartet of soldier crabs (Mictyris longicarpus) (see here), and several of you have asked for more.

Unfortunately, I didnít have a good Ďarmyí shot to show, so Iíve posted this lone soldier that shows the detail of their alien-like structure. Their almost spherical bodies are around 50mm diameter. Details of their behaviour can be found with the link above.

In the workshop I have posted a group of 25 soldier crabs.

This shot was also taken at mouth of the Clyde River in Batemans Bay. Cropped, levels adjusted, 80%USM and resized for TN.

Its probably hard to imagine seeing several hundered or thousands of thse crabs moving over the sand flats. Hopefully this shot will aid your imagination.
