Buteo buteo - Shahin (38)
|Hello my friend,|
The 2nd post from my İzmir trip seri belongs to a raptor, Buteo buteo (L., 1758) - Şahin [TR], Common Buzzard [EN] (FALCONIFORMES: ACCIPITRIDAE). It is one of three species of the genus Buteo Lacepede, 1799 in Turkiye. Other two species are;
......- Buteo rufinus (Cretzschmar, 1829) - Kızılşahin [TR], Long-legged Buzzard [EN] (photo I, II),
......- Buteo lagopus (Pontoppidan, 1763) - Paçalı Şahin [TR], Rough-legged Buzzard [EN].
Of these, two shots of B. rufinus were already posted by me (click the photo links above).
B. buteo is common in most parts of our country, especially northern and western parts. It is mostly seen in winter period. This raptor is also common in İzmir Bird Paradisea (Gediz Deltası). When we drived to southeast-east corner of the delta, we saw two buzzards and I took some shots from our car window. Two other photographs for upper and under sides side of wings can be seen on Workshop I and WS 2.
I hope you will like them.
My special thanks to Zafer Kurnuç, Ömer Döndüren and Mustafa Sözen (spalaxtr) for this trip.
