Workshop Note
Upper Vernagt valley with strongly receded Vernagt glacier. Erebia gorge was seen along the path at the opposite slope, quite close to Vernagt refuge (2760m a.s.l.) which can be seen here in the distance. Hiking up there from the nearest human dwellings - the small village of Vent (1900m a.s.l.), or the lonesome and exposed ancient farmhouses of Rofen (2050m a.s.l.) - takes about 3 hours. A complete roundtrip leading into the highest parts of Rofen valley and back to Vent will take about 8-10 hours, most of the time high above the treeline, and very awarding to enjoy a scenery of eternal ice, and to study the alpine nature. That day, it took me even a bit longer, taking dozens of pictures of plants, butterflies, and others ...
