Boulder Pass (24)
|I am taking this image at an elevation of 4000 feet US, on a dirt road which turns off another primitive road. None of these roads are made for 'city' cars, but almost demand a four wheel drive with very good traction tires.|
I am looking upwards and Eastern towards Boulder Pass. although Boulder Pass is at 5000 feet, the mountains around it are slightly above 6000 feet. Additionally we are looking ACROSS the valley which separates what is known as the Okanogan Highlands (where I am taking the image from ) and the main part of the Colville National forest.
Trees here vary widely from white and red fir to lodgepole pine and Tamarack which is deciduous. To me THIS is where weather is made...and only last night Jim Whittaker spoke not far from here...Jim was the first American to climb Everest in 1963. A picture of him signing his book in the county seat last night is in the workshop and taken by my friend and Jims son Bobby Whittaker...permission granted by Bobby to use as I wish.
