I you see this is once againg from my archives which are staring to get very low .
Taken down by the local river one day in the spring.

Dance fly ( Empis tesselata. ) A small dark empid or assassin fly. seen April - July . Visits flowers for nectar but also catches other flies . these are somtimes carried in flight and then sucked dry using a long downward pointing proboscis. Body length 11mm.

I've tweaked the highlights to take some of the glare from the bright flowers.
