today was a special day. no, not only for the reason that i went to explore and spent the whole day with... Nature... not only, for i found that particular huge, blue, gorgeous, rare butterfly [seemed quite low today and was basking] i had been seeing flying and was unable to photograph as it would never stop... not only for i got that bird [for more than 10 minutes] of which i had no satisfactory shots... not for i got at least 11 types of new dragonflies today along with 3 new spiders and 2 new birds... not for i got to see my most favourite bird, Indian Roller and that even two at a time!... not for i had almost stepped on a HUGE snake but saw it at the last moment and managed to escape
... not for today is Holi... a festival of colour... nor for it is International Women's Day...

but for today, i got so many surprise gifts from my mother Nature... one woman to another :)
i also got all the colours in Nature today. so, happy Holi !
and, happy Women's Day too! :)
Green Bee-eater (Merops orientalis) is from the family 'Meropidae' and eats insects, especially bees, wasps and ants, which are caught in the air by sorties from an open perch.

the breeding season is from March to June.

these are not migratory birds but they make seasonal movements in response to rainfall. these birds are somewhat sluggish in the mornings and may be found huddled next to each other on wires sometimes with their bills tucked in their backs well after sunrise. they sand-bathe more frequently than other bee-eater species and will sometimes bathe in water by dipping into water in flight.

they are mostly see in the plains but can sometimes be found up to 5000 or 6000 feet in the Himalayas.

PS: all these above information are taken from Wikipedia which match very well with my personal experiences with these birds for so long.

NB: the male on the LHS and the female, on right.
