Seeing the German Alps for the first time is awe inspiring. These peaks are far steeper than ever imagined. This is just a few kilometres from the Neuschanstein Castle built in the mid 1800's. Nearby is the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain. That one can be reached by gondola or train from either the German or Austrian side, and there's an official border crossing station at the top.
